A client recently ventured into rabbitry with ten females and two males, expecting management to determine whether his growing investment would become a profitable enterprise. Strong management matters from beginning.
During their first parity, the rabbits produced sixty kits, but only forty-five survived to weaning. The result showed that production alone does not guarantee profitability without proper supervision every day.
Because he trusted expertise in man management, I advised an agreement with his employee. For the breeding, five hundred naira would be paid for every surviving kit at weaning.
The incentive changed the outcome remarkably. During their second parity, sixty-five kits were produced, and sixty survived to weaning. This improvement demonstrated how motivation can strengthen employee commitment on farms.
Sometimes farm workers are genuinely trying their best, but additional motivation helps them become more attentive and committed. Fair financial incentives can improve performance, accountability, productivity, and profitability significantly overall.
