FOWL POX VACCINATION: PROTECT YOUR BIRDS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE

September 01, 2026

Fowl pox is a viral disease that can cause scabs, skin lesions, discomfort, reduced productivity, and eye problems in poultry. Vaccination protects birds before exposure. Prevention saves money and losses.

Turkeys, cockerels, Noilers, and other susceptible birds should receive vaccination according to a veterinarian’s recommended schedule, commonly around five to six weeks. Farmers selling brooded birds must remain vigilant always.

Vaccines come in different doses, including 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 doses. Obtain them from reputable outlets, maintain the cold chain, and follow manufacturer instructions carefully. Proper handling matters greatly.

Vaccination commonly uses the wing-web method with an appropriate applicator. Mixing, administration, and post-vaccination care should follow the vaccine manufacturer’s instructions or veterinary guidance. Good technique supports protection and efficacy.

Once birds develop fowl pox, vaccination will not cure the existing infection. Supportive care and veterinary management can reduce complications, while prevention remains cheaper and safer. Protecting birds protects profit.
