A new dawn brings another opportunity to share valuable knowledge on animal science and livestock management. Today, we explore the special names used for different stages of monogastric animal life.
Monogastric animals include pigs, rabbits, chickens, horses, ducks, and guinea pigs. Understanding their terms improves communication among farmers, students, and animal lovers while building practical knowledge about their production systems.
For swine, boar means uncastrated male, sow is female that has littered, gilt has not littered, barrow is castrated, and piglet is young pig. Rabbit terms include doe, buck too.
Chicken uses cock or rooster for mature males and hen for females, while chick is young bird. Horses have stallion, mare, and foal names. These terms make farming easier daily.
Ducks have drake, hen, and duckling while guinea pigs use boar, sow, and pups. Learning these terms strengthens animal knowledge and encourages better farming practices everywhere. Keep learning and growing.
