Nigerian farmers are facing unprecedented pressures from drought, insecurity, rising production costs, and shrinking agricultural land. These challenges threaten livelihoods, investment, and national food security. Sustainable agriculture needs urgent attention.

Kidnapping has forced many farmers away from productive fields, while the conversion of arable land into real estate further reduces opportunities for food production. Protecting farmland and farmers remains essential.

High PMS and diesel prices, expensive inputs, inadequate infrastructure, and unpredictable weather continue increasing production costs. Farmers cannot sustainably produce affordable food when operating expenses keep rising steadily nationwide today.

Government and communities must prioritise agricultural security, irrigation, affordable inputs, accessible financing, and farmland protection. Supporting farmers today will strengthen food availability, create employment, and reduce future dependence on imports.

At household level, backyard farming can complement commercial agriculture by producing vegetables, eggs, and essentials. Every productive garden matters. Food security begins with practical action, responsible policies, and empowered farmers.
