My lecturer, Thomas from South Africa, noticed my agribusiness knowledge and encouraged my interest in his course through engaging classroom questions. Learning creates valuable opportunities.
One lesson that stayed with me was glocalisation, the practice of thinking globally while adapting products, services, and communication to local realities. Context matters greatly.
Nigeria demonstrates this perfectly. Although English connects us nationally, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and Pidgin help businesses communicate naturally with different communities. Language expands business reach.
If you want wider markets, your advertising should speak directly to people. Use English nationally, then adapt messages according to location, culture, language, and preferences.
This explains why some businesses use trusted intermediaries who understand farmers, their language, culture, challenges. Effective communication builds confidence and stronger relationships. Trust drives success.
Every day, I appreciate these lessons surrounding my studies. School is not only about certificates; it also teaches thinking, relationships, and enterprise. Learning never stops.
