It has been a while, but I only share information when it can benefit farmers. Just as humans face chickenpox, animals face serious pox diseases. Awareness matters.

Goat pox is a highly contagious viral disease mainly affecting sheep and goats. It can cause fever, skin lesions, weakness, reduced productivity, and death sometimes. Early action matters.

The disease spreads through close contact, respiratory secretions, mucous membranes, broken skin, contaminated equipment, clothing, housing, and other farm materials. Proper biosecurity therefore matters greatly. Stay vigilant.

Farmers should not assume antibiotics can cure goat pox because it is caused by a virus. Veterinary professionals should guide treatment and manage secondary infections. Seek professional advice.

Prevention remains the strongest strategy. Vaccinate animals with appropriate vaccines, isolate suspected cases, maintain cleanliness, control movement, and seek veterinary advice promptly. Protect your flock. Prevention saves money.

Good farm management can save animals, protect income, and prevent avoidable losses. Do not wait until an outbreak occurs before taking goat pox prevention seriously. Act early.
