GREENHOUSES AND THE NEW GENERATION OF PROFITABLE FARMERS

August 08, 2026

Youth participation in modern plant farming gives me genuine joy because agriculture offers profitable opportunities, innovation, employment, and a meaningful pathway toward lasting economic independence.

I have always been associated with animal production, not because plant farming is unfamiliar, but because livestock interests and personal experiences shaped my professional focus.

Greenhouses especially fascinate me because they create controlled growing environments, protecting crops from harsh weather while supporting production beyond ordinary seasonal limitations and uncertainties year-round.

They can improve yields, crop quality, water efficiency, fertiliser application, and pest management, while enabling farmers to produce valuable exotic crops using less land efficiently.

With better technology, expertise, and planning, greenhouse farmers can achieve predictable harvests, stronger market opportunities, and improved profitability. Good knowledge remains the foundation of success.

It is never too late to join agriculture's moving train. As more youths embrace innovation, farming can create wealth and transform future economies across Africa.
