ROTATIONAL GRAZING: TURNING PASTURE INTO PROFIT

August 07, 2026

Rotational grazing is a practical livestock management system where animals move between pasture sections, allowing previously grazed areas enough time to recover naturally and flourish.

This week, I discussed animal husbandry experiences with a senior colleague in the United Kingdom, and our conversation revealed an important lesson about professional expertise.

He explained that he owns extensive grazing land but allows his animals access only once every two weeks, which made me reconsider his management strategy.

I explained rotational grazing and how dividing pasture into sections can improve forage utilisation, protect vegetation, support regrowth, and potentially help increase livestock productivity significantly.

I could not blame him because animal husbandry was not his academic background; he simply entered livestock farming as a side venture using available resources.

The experience reminded me that resources alone do not guarantee success. Proper knowledge, professional guidance, and strategic management help transform resources into sustainable agricultural opportunities.

Have a good day.
