Affected sheep may develop hard, immovable jaw swellings, difficulty chewing, weight loss, and draining wounds containing thick pus and sulfur granules. Recognize warning signs.

Diagnosis depends on clinical examination and, when necessary, radiographs to identify bone damage. Veterinary assessment helps distinguish actinomycosis from other jaw abnormalities. Proper diagnosis guides treatment.

Treatment may involve prolonged veterinary-directed antibiotics, while iodide therapy or surgery may be considered in selected cases. Advanced bone damage can worsen prognosis significantly. Treat early.

Prevention requires careful feeding, good dental health, prompt attention to mouth injuries, and regular observation. Protecting affected sheep supports welfare, productivity, and profitable farming. Prevention protects profitability.
